In January 2023, Karen Scarlett and the Innisfail Art Club launched the Community Crochet BOMB Project.

*UPDATE*
We have decided our installation date for this community project will be June 3, 2023 from 10am-3pm.
We are planning all kinds of community interaction and festivities and we would like everyone to be involved. We are working on getting a Bar-B-Q and entertainment too.
If you are making hearts from a land far away and you need to send in your hearts by post, we would love it if you included a note with why you decided to help us out and be part of this fun community project. We will laminate your note and attach it to the fence along with the hearts you made for us.
***
The entire community is invited to download our free knitting and crochet “heart” patterns and weave up a storm to create hearts to adorn chain link fences in our community, more specifically between the Innisfail Health Centre (hospital) and the Autumn Grove.

The BOMB project will continue through the winter months and installation will happen in the spring once the weather warms.
Within 48 hours of the project being launched, over 70 patterns had been downloaded, not only from local Innisfail residents but from all over North America. Spots like Northern Ontario, Florida, Colorado, Arizona, Vancouver, all over Alberta, the Maritimes and a few places on Vancouver Island.
On installation day, June 3, 2023, we had over 350 people come out to help install the over 3000 hearts we received from around the world. It took most of the day to attach the handmade hearts and we had multiple generations help throughout the day.
Multiple sponsors helped create an exciting day. Thank you to our title sponsors, Karen Scarlett Artist, Innisfail Welcoming and Inclusive Community Committee for leading the day. Thank you to Fortis, The Innisfail Legion, Rotary Club of Innisfail, The Town of Innisfail, the Centennial Fiddlers and the Innisfail Music Program for helping to create a wonderful day. It is amazing when community comes together.
Thank you for joining in on all of the fun!
